Toa Payoh Sports Hall, Monday, March 10, 2014 — Raffles Girls’ School (RGS) brushed aside St. Margaret’s Secondary School (SMSS) 33–24 to claim the South Zone B Division Championship title.
Both teams played to their advantages as St Margaret’s attacked with finesse and speed while RGS relied heavily on their strong defence and power shooter who had outstanding accuracy in her shots.
The game was tight up till the fourth minute of the first quarter with the score tied at 3–3. RGS took a slim 8–7 lead by the end of the first quarter.
It was point for point from the beginning of the second quarter. Both teams had their defences up for the fight but RGS emerged as the stronger team by pulling away to lead 17-14 at the end of the second quarter.
The third quarter saw St Margaret’s up their game with faster, more accurate passes. However, the stiff competition also led to increased pressure, what with the higher number of contact fouls and penalties called out.
RGS’ iron defence and composure helped them to stretch the lead to 10 points (27–17) at the end of the third quarter.
The last quarter saw St Margaret’s give their best though it was not enough to beat RGS and they went down 24–33 against them.
