B Div Rugby: Bukit Batok come back to tie 29–29 with Montfort in final group game

Physical Education and Sports Education Branch, Thursday, March 13, 2014 — Bukit Batok Secondary came back strongly in the second half to tie 29–29 with Montfort Secondary in a final group game of the National B Division Rugby Championship.

Issac Andrew (#31) of Montfort scored a try early on in the game. Subsequently, a second try saw Montfort go 10–0 up.

Alvin Ter (#16) of Bukit Batok later made it past Montfort’s back line to score the first try for his team. Muhammad Irfan (#10) then added a second try to tie things up 10–10.

However, Marcus Ng (#10) scored two more tries to give Montfort a comfortable 24–14 lead going into the break.

Marcus (#10) scored his third try in the second half, allowing Montfort to pull away to 29–14.

However, good team effort from Bukit Batok spurred a comeback with 15 unanswered points. Alvin (#16) broke through with his speed for another try, and Ian Tan (#8) added another. Irfan (#10) also made his conversions count and scored a penalty to make it a 29–29 tie.

Montfort and Bukit Batok both had a 0–3 win-loss record before this game. Both teams did not enter the semi-finals.

Bukit Batok captain, Adriel (#1), said, “This match is our best by far this season. It is everyone’s combined efforts. I guess our lineouts were good, as we pretty much won most of them. I think we did well as a team.”

Montfort captain, Arvin (#66), said, “We did okay this game, it was better than our last three matches. I think we have a lot to improve on and we will work towards the Bowl Championship next year.”
