Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), March 12, Wednesday, 2014 — Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) came back in the final quarter to beat Raffles Institution 7–6 in the third and fourth place play-off of the National B Division Boys Water Polo Championship. Yu Jun Jie (ACS(BR) #10) led all scorers with five goals, while Benedict Yeo (RI #9) scored three goals for his team.

Raffles drew first blood in the first quarter, Benedict Yeo (RI #9) scoring on the break with no one guarding him. Jun Jie (ACS(BR) #10) answered back for his team with a wonderful backhand shot to beat the RI keeper, Bryan Yip (RI #1) to tie it up 1–1.

The second quarter saw Raffles open up a comfortable lead three-goal lead through some solid defending. Benedict (RI #9) scored two, while Ken Zhu (RI #3) chipped in with one of his own. ACS(BR) were able to pull one back, as Scott Windley (ACS(BR) #3) finally broke through the Raffles fortress towards the end of the quarter with a strong shot for his team to trail 2–5.

The third quarter saw ACS(BR) chip at the lead, as Jun Jie (ACS(BR) #10) added another goal to bring the score to 3–5.

The ACS(BR) comeback continued in the final quarter. The solid defence that Raffles put up in the first three quarters started to fall apart. Jun Jie (ACS(BR) #10) scored a goal, before Jared Lim (RI #4) answered with a long range howitzer to give Raffles a 6–4 lead. Jun Jie (ACS(BR) #10) and Scott Windley (ACS(BR) #3) then combined for the next three goals to give ACS(BR) the comeback win.

ACS(BR) captain, Churn Hym (#2), said, “We played Raffles before, so we were a little stressed. However, we were able to overcome much more by working together as a team. Today’s game showed that we deserve the win much more than them.”

ACS(BR) top scorer, Jun Jie (#10), said, “I hope next year’s team will follow through from this year and showcase even more teamwork. I’ve played with my senior batch as well, and this team is one of the most bonded ones I’ve been on and I hope it will continue on.”
