Presbyterian High, Tuesday, March 10, 2014 — Dunman Secondary defeated Xinmin Secondary 2–1 in the group stage of the National B Division Boys Volleyball Championship.
Dunman finished top of Group C with a 3–0 win–loss record to qualify for the next round while dumping Xinmin out of the tournament at the same time. Xinmin finish their season with a 1–2 record.
Dunman took the first set 25–21 on the back of good play by their setters. Powerful spiking by Jeryl Seah (Dunman #1) made the difference, sending the ball rocketing off the arms of Xinmin blockers to score points each time.
Xinmin answered in the second set with good net play. They were behind early on in the set, but dug deep to rally back and take the set 25–17.
The third set was a tight battle throughout. The Xinmin blockers earned a couple of points by angling their blocks towards the Dunman side of the net. A strong spike by Kenneth Lek (Dunman #3) brought up set point for Dunman at 24–19. But Xinmin showed grit to rally back and score five consecutive points to tie things up at 24. In the end, a Xinmin unforced error proved to be the decider and allowed Dunman to secure the 28–26 win.
