The Grandstand, Tuesday, March 25, 2014 — Evergreen Secondary edged out Regent Secondary 25-22 to advance to the bowl final of the 2014 National B Division Rugby Championship.
This was Evergreen’s fourth win in a row and they will now meet Jurong Secondary in the bowl final. Jurong beat Peirce Secondary 17–15 in the other semi-final.
Evergreen, who led 12–7 at half time, had two tries and a conversion while Regent managed a converted try in reply.
Evergreen scored two more tries early in the second half to solidify their lead at 22–7.
However, Regent shifted gears in the last 20 minutes of the game, scoring three tries to tie it up at 22–22. Evergreen pulled ahead to 25–22 and Regent missed a penalty, blowing a chance to tie the game.
Evergreen captain, Aqiil B Hasbullah (#10), said that it was a lucky win but his team did their best. He felt that they made some bad plays towards the end of the game which included giving up a penalty that would have tied the game. He added that the other team was fitter, physically and mentally, but they had more skill.
Regent captain, Barnley (#1), said that it was a very tough game and that they could have done better. He felt that his team started to wake up in the last 10 minutes of the game but there wasn’t enough time for them to come back. He added that the team played the way that they should in the last 10 minutes and that they did quite well.
