Republic Polytechnic, Monday, March 31, 2014 – Methodist Girls’ School (MGS) claimed a 43–27 victory over St. Hilda’s Secondary (SHS) in the National B Division Netball Championship.
The first quarter saw even competition between the two teams with MGS having the edge as they took an 8–4 lead into the second quarter.
MGS pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring St. Hilda’s 14–6, as their Goal Shooter Claire Seah and Goal Attack Amanda Lim showed great chemistry in their accurate passes and rapid rotation.
MGS led by 12 points (22–10) at the start of the third quarter, and they continued to apply pressure, at one point forcing four successive turnovers.
St. Hilda’s showed some steely resolve with more accurate shots, a smooth delivery of passes allowing them to pot four consecutive goals within three minutes, but they still trailed by 15 points (16-31) heading into the final quarter.
St. Hilda’s almost matched MGS point for point in the final quarter but time was not on their side as MGS wrapped up a 43–27 win.
MGS captain, Yap Wen Sze, said, “I felt like we did quite well in the first three quarters but I think St Hilda’s did better in the last quarter. They really worked toward closing the point margin.”
Her co-captain, Celine Lim, said, “Our biggest strength is height. Our goal shooter, Claire, is easily heads and shoulders above the rest of the players. In addition, our defenders are adept at intercepting pocket balls which also helps. However, There are some challenges faced in this game such as the lack in communication. We could have been more focused.”
