Republic Polytechnic, Wednesday, April 2 , 2014 — Singapore Sports School (SSP) fought back in the final quarter to beat Tanjong Katong Secondary School (TKSS) 28–24 in the National B Division Girls Netball Championship.

This was the third straight win for Sports School in their group, which also means that they qualify for the next round.

The game was a tight affair early on, as both teams kept scoring when it was their turn to start the possession. Tanjong Katong took advantage of the height of their Goal Shooter, lobbing long passes in for her to get scoring opportunities in the goal circle. With this strategy, Tanjong Katong were able to hold on to an 8–6 lead at the end of the period.

The second period saw the Tanjong Katong Goal Shooter continue her dominance in the goal circle. Sports School’s Goal Defence and Goal Keeper found no answer for her size. They were unable to move her out of position, nor affect her shooting in any way. TKSS stretched the lead to five at half-time, putting favorites Sports School in an unfamiliar position.

Sports School finally showed signs of adapting to the Tanjong Katong’s Goal Shooter in the second half. SSP’s Goal Keeper was more active in keeping her away from prime shooting spots. This also affected the entry passes in to the Tanjong Katong Goal Shooter. On the offensive end, Sports School’s Goal Shooter and Goal Attack combined well to lead the comeback. Sports School went on a 6–0 run to tie the game at 21.

The final quarter saw Sports SChool take their first lead of the game at 24–23. They then went on a 3–0 run, which put them at a comfortable distance from their opponents. Sports School eventually ended the game with a 28–24 margin, sealing their passage into the next round.

Sports School vice-captain, Tan Zay Hua, said, “We came back as a team as we were very determined to win. We were more cohesive in the second half, which helped us tremendously. We hope to get first in Nationals and we will do our best to claim it.”
