PERSES, Sunday, March 30, 2014 — It is not very often that one can see a father and son representing the same Community Sports Club (CSC). “It feels good to represent the same CSC with my son. Through playing together we can also learn something from each other,” commented 31-year-old Adillah bin Mohd Amin, who is a pest control specialist by day.
Representing Toa Payoh Central CSC, Adillah plays in the senior men’s category. Adillah is also a proud father of eight children, and his eldest son, Muhd Adrianshaz, 13, also represents Toa Payoh Central CSC in the junior category. The junior category is for athletes aged 17 and under.
The junior games have already been completed, with Toa Payoh Central CSC clinching fourth place overall.
“Wherever I go to play sport, Adrianshaz would follow me around. When he was younger, he wanted me to buy the sepak takraw ball for him. And I did. He played the ball at home all the time. Even when my wife was angry, he still carried on,” recalled Adillah.
Following in Adillah’s footsteps, Adrianshaz competed in his first Community Games in the sepak takraw juniors back in 2012, at a tender age of 11 years. Despite being pit against athletes who are a few years older, the young Adrianshaz helped Toa Payoh Central CSC clinch the championship.
Speaking of his son’s achievements, Adillah commented, “I am really very proud of him. I did not expect him to win. It shows that he can probably play the sport much better than I do.”
The father and son also have the unwavering support of Siti Zuraidah. The 31-year-old housewife makes it a point to be present at all their games and encourage the duo. “I am very proud that Adrianshaz is playing against players that are older than him. But sometimes, I am scared that he will get injured during games. As for my ‘ah bee’ (Adillah), he’s playing with people his age, so I’m not that worried.”
Besides sepak takraw, the family also spends time together through other forms of sport as well, such as football, which is also a common interest in the family.
