Raffles Institution, Wednesday, 9 April, 2014 – Raffles Institution (RI) shut out Tampines Junior College (TPJC) 10–0 to begin their National A Division Softball Championship season.
RI came out strong in the first inning, only allowing Toh Ming Tong (TPJC #31) to reach first base on an error by their second baseman whilst getting three strike outs to retire the inning.
RI scored eight runs with Joshua (RI #17) hitting a two-run homer in the first inning.
TPJC started the top of the second inning with Kenneth Choo (TPJC #1) getting walked to first base. He proceeded to advance to second base but was left stranded when the bottom of the line up failed to rack up any hits.
RI failed to score any runs in the bottom of the second but also gave nothing away when pitcher Schuyler Seah (RI #71) got three strike outs at the top of the third to quickly end the inning.
After giving up two runs in the bottom of the third inning, TPJC got three consecutive outs to end the inning.
With three outs to go, Schuyler (RI #71) quickly got the first strike out before RI brought in Edward (RI #54) to close the game. After successfully striking out Marcus Chew (TPJC #21), he allowed Kenneth Choo (TPJC #1) to get the first hit for TPJC.
With a runner on first base and two outs, TPJC brought in pinch hitter Kok Yao Siang (TPJC #17) but he struck out to end the game.
When ask how he felt about the game, captain Daniel Lim (RI #3) said that it was a good first game and that they could only go up from here.
