Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Friday, April 11, 2014 — Joshua Lim of Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) set a new record in the boys’ C Division 400m gold medal with a timing of 51.65 seconds at the 55th National Inter-School Track & Field Championships.
Hwa Chong Institution’s duo of Darius Ng and Irving Alexander finished second and third in 55.15 seconds and 55.17 seconds respectively.
The C Division 400m record is 51.97s and was set by Ng Chin Hui, then of ACS(I), in 2008.
Joshua smashed the record by 0.32 seconds to clock 51.65 seconds, setting a new personal best as well.
The result is Joshua’s first gold medal at the National Championships. In last year’s edition, Joshua only managed a fourth-place finish with a timing of 57.12. The 14-year-old commented, “It feels great. I want to thank God, my parents, my friends and definitely my coach. To God, I give all the glory, honour and praise.”
Joshua’s scintillating performance would have been good enough to win the B Division race, and place him fourth in the A Division.
