Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Monday, April 14, 2014 — Arissa Rashid of Nanyang Girls’ High defended her girls’ C Division 800m title with a timing of 2 minutes 32.44 seconds at the 55th National Inter-School Track & Field Championships.
Cheryl Chng of Cedar Girls’ Secondary bagged the silver medal in 2:40.48, while Lettitia Jules Quek of CHIJ (Toa Payoh) took home the bronze medal with a 2:40.89 finish.
Arissa’s time is her fastest this year, but was still about a second off her 2:31.2 PB set last year. “I am very happy but I am a bit disappointed because I did not manage to break my personal best. I want to thank my coach and my friends for always supporting me and encouraging me along the way,” commented Arissa.
Despite not running her best time, Arissa still completed her second consecutive 800m-1500m double at the Schools’ meet. The last female athlete to win the maximum four individual gold medals by her second year of secondary education was Valerie Pereira, who won the C Division 100m-200m double twice from 2003 to 2004.
The C Division 800m record is 2 minutes 25.76 seconds and was set by Singapore Sports School alumna, Lossini D/O Jeyapandiyen, in 2004.
