Singapore Sports School, Tuesday, April 22, 2014 — Tan Jing-E of Methodist Girls’ School broke her own meet record in the girls’ C Division 50 metres butterfly at the 55th National Schools Swimming Championships by clocking a time of 28.59 seconds in the final to finish first.
She held the previous mark of 28.64 seconds which she set in the heats at the same championship.
Daphne Tan and Elizabeth Lee, both of Raffles Girls School (Secondary), made up the rest of the podium. Daphne clocked a time of 29.37 seconds to finish second, while Elizabeth finished third in a time of 29.70 seconds.
Jing-E said, “I felt really happy that I broke the meet record. I want to thank God, my parents and my mates for pacing me.”
Jing-E’s personal best is 28.53s clocked at last month’s Singapore National Age Group championships. The national under-14 mark is 28.20s set by Hoong En Qi last year.
