Republic Polytechnic, Monday, May 5, 2014 — Saint Andrew’s Junior College (SAJC) dominated Meridian Junior College (MJC) 83–9 to top their group in the National A Division Girls Netball Championship.

SAJC dominated from the start, playing their game with quick passes to move from one end of the court to the other. Offensively, they were unstoppable by MJC’s defence and thus had no trouble finding their Goal Shooter in the circle, who consistently added points onto the scoreboard with her good finishing.

On the other hand, MJC were unable to break through SAJC’s tight defence, and thus were unable to feed their Goal Shooter with the ball. At the end of the first quarter, MJC located their Goal Attack in the circle who then converted to close the first quarter 1–21.

Early into the second quarter, MJC were awarded possession of the ball after a contact foul was made on MJC’s Centre. The ball was then passed to the Goal Attack who then scored the second point for MJC (2–21). SAJC continued to limit MJC’s scoring with their diligent defence, intercepting passes that were intended to reach the shooting circle. MJC was more coordinated towards the end of the first half to play a much better game, scoring three more points to trail 5–40.

SAJC’s Goal Attack kicked off the second half with three consecutive points to bring their lead to 43–5. She shook off her defenders to reach open spaces and converted efficiently in the scoring circle, thus contributing significantly to the scoring. SAJC continued to breeze past MJC’s defence to score mainly through their Goal Shooter. SAJC eventually won 83–9 to remain undefeated since the start of their season. They top their group with this win to go into the second round.

SAJC captain, Joie, said, “Considering it’s our last game of the first round, I guess it was pretty okay. We played as a team.”

MJC captain, Yue Ning, said, “I think because our team has only a few experienced players, so even though we could have improved on the score difference and played better, I still want to applaud every team member, because all of them really did put in efforts, especially for the inexperienced ones. They know they are weaker, so they put in extra effort. So I’m still very thankful for the team regardless of the results. I think we could learn a lot from SAJC and they are also very sporting players. I think it’s a pleasure to play with them.”
