Bedok Green Secondary School, Monday, May 5, 2014 — Raffles Institution (RI) defeated Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) [ACS(I)] 11–5 to advance to the final of the National A Division Softball Championship.
RI remain undefeated this season and the victory gave RI their fifth straight win.
ACS(I) came out strong in the first inning, scoring four runs with what was supposed to be a double hit by David [ACS(I) #13], which turned into a triple after an error by Shamus (RI #22).
RI responded by scoring four runs in the same inning to level the score, with Shamus (RI #22) hitting a home run as it got past the centre fielder Erwan [ACS(I) #2].
RI got an easy three up, three down in the second inning to stop ACS(I)’s momentum. They continued to rack up three more runs in the bottom of the second, with Zi An (RI #39) hitting a 2-run home run to gain the lead.
In the fourth inning, after getting a quick three up, three down on ACS(I), Raffles went on to score four more runs. Despite a comeback attempt by Niels [ACS(I) #27] who scored a run, it was not enough as RI held on for the 11–5 victory.
RI captain, Daniel (#3), said, “ACS(I) started off well. They made good hits and scored runs. We managed to step up and levelled the score. After settling down we managed to hold them down. Our batters were good as they made many good hits which contributed to the win.”
For ACS(I), this is their second loss to RI this season. ACS(I) still has a chance of qualifying for the final if they win their next game against the victor of the Hwa Chong Institution-Tampines Junior College game. The game will be played on May 9, 3 p.m., at Bedok Green Secondary.
The A Division softball final will be held on May 14, 3 p.m., at Bedok Green Secondary.
