Republic Polytechnic, Tuesday, May 6, 2014 — Yishun Junior College (YJC) posted a 4–1 win over Catholic Junior College (CJC) in the National A Division Girls Floorball Championship. Daphne Ong (YJC #21), Ericia Chan (YJC #10), Moo Hui Ming (YJC #17) and Pang Hui Ping (YJC #12) each scored a goal to lead their team to victory.

This is Yishun’s second win of the season, after beating River Valley High 3–0 in their first game. They are now first in Group B with a 2–0 win–loss record.

YJC dominated the match from start to finish. Daphne Ong (YJC #21) opened the scoring shortly after the start to put YJC in the driver’s seat. YJC’s aggressive offence left no room for CJC to attack at all. Each time the ball went into the possession of a CJC player, it would be taken back by a YJC player almost immediately.

The second period saw YJC again laying siege to the CJC goal. But this time, the CJC keeper did a good job of making saves and keeping YJC at bay. CJC’s outfield players were having a hard time controlling the ball and the number of attempts that they mustered on the YJC goal were few, leaving nothing much for the YJC keeper to do. After a long resistance by CJC, Ericia Chan (YJC #10) found the net for YJC again and extended the lead to two goals.

Moo Hui Ming (YJC #17) opened the scoring in the final period with a quick goal. Pang Hui Ping (YJC #12) then added one of her own with a nice shot from the right wing. CJC were unable to break through the YJC defence for most of the period but Alexandra Wibowo (CJC #23) managed to score a consolation goal off a free hit. YJC ended the game 4–1 winners, putting them in a good position to qualify for the next round.

YJC captain, Siti Muliyanti (#26), said, “I think I felt like more can be done today as CJC did well in marking us tightly. They made it hard for us to control the ball and make good passes. We have to finish better and try to release the ball before players mark us. We hope to be champions this year.”
