National A Division Softball Victoria Junior College vs Anglo-Chinese Junior College

Bedok Green Secondary School, Saturday, May 10, 2014 – Victoria Junior College (VJC) advanced to the final with a 2–1 win over Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC) in the National A Division Softball Championship.

With ACJC failing to score any runs in the first inning, first batter Tan Shin Yi (VJC #27) hit a home run to take the lead for VJC. ACJC then got the next three consecutive batters out to end the inning.

Both teams were unable to score any runs in the second inning before ACJC managed to tie the game at 1–1 with Whang Iwen (ACJC #10) scoring a run after getting walked on base.

With the game tied, VJC responded with Rachel Tang (VJC #39) hitting a double and scoring on a sacrificial bunt by Grace (VJC #8) for a 2–1 lead.

With a one run deficit, ACJC went into the last inning with the top of the line up. Whang Iwen (ACJC #10) was grounded out to start the inning but ACJC hopes were raised when Tanya Tan (ACJC #48) hit a double, and teammate Deborah Lek (ACJC #18) followed with a single.

With runners on the corners, Jolyn Ho (ACJC #12) was called out on an infield fly ball. ACJC’s hopes evaporated when Rissa Ho (ACJC #21) was thrown out by the pitcher to end the game.

VJC captain, Nicole Chan (#7), said, “I feel that both team had put up a strong fight. Thank god for coach who trained us and prepared us. I’m proud of the team as it was a combined effort, everyone did well.”

While VJC advance to the final of the National Softball Championship, ACJC will have to face River Valley High on May 12 at 3pm at Bedok Green Secondary School for a chance to play in the final.
