Nanyang Junior College, Monday, May 12, 2014 — Victoria Junior College (VJC) defeated Millennia Institute (MI) 4–0 to clinch their second win in round two of the National A Division Boys Football Championship.

VJC’s Bradley Gan (#5), Chaichote Panasampon (#8), Muhd Ammar (#10) and Nicholas Yong (#17) had a goal each in the win which also confirmed a place in the semi-finals for the defending champions.

In the opening minutes of the game, VJC sent the ball into the back of the net but the goal was ruled offside. From then on, VJC dominated with their high possession rate and attempted a few more shots, but could not score any. The first goal came when VJC were awarded a penalty in the 11th minute. Chaichote (#8) converted successfully to put his team 1–0 up.

Muhammad Nabil (MI #16) and Abu Isa B Abdullah (MI #20) linked up well on several occasions to try for a goal, but the ball was cleared away quickly by VJC defenders.

Bradley Gan (#5) scored another one in the 28th minute for VJC to lead 2–0 going into the halftime break.

MI came back more focused in the second half to secure more possession with goalkeeper Handchard Goh (#18) actively directing his teammates from the post.

Sherman Quek (VJC #20) tried for a goal early into the second half but it was just wide of the post. On the next transition, Nicholas Yong (VJC #17) sent the ball into the net to add one more to the scoresheet (3–0). Benjamin Ong (VJC #4) tried for a fourth goal but his shot hit the woodwork.

Handchard (MI #18) made several composed saves towards the end of the game to deny VJC more goals. In the 93rd minute, Nicholas (VJC #17) found Muhd Ammar (VJC #10) just in front of the post, who swerved past the goalkeeper to slot the ball in to seal a 4–0 win.

VJC captain, Lai Hsin (#13), said, “I think we started a bit sluggish, but afterward we slowly found our momentum.”
