Jalan Besar Stadium, Monday, May 19, 2014 — Meridian Junior College (MJC) edged past Millennia Institute (MI) with a late goal to win 1–0 and emerge third in the National A Division Girls Football Championship. MJC were fourth last year, while MI finished in second position.

Nurul Huda (MJC #15) broke through in extra time to score the only goal for the game.

MJC were in control in the first half and held most of the possession. Nur Atiqah (MJC #4) registered many clearances in her team’s defensive half to deny MI from attacking. As such, MI chose to attack mostly through long passes which goalkeeper Nur Fadhlina (MJC #21) collected easily. Just before the first half ended, Serena Bok (MI #10) tried for one just in front of the post, but goalkeeper Fadhlina (MJC #21) punched the ball away to register a goalless first half.

In the second half, Nur Fitri (MJC #11) delivered a free-kick but MI’s goalkeeper Nasyitha Aswen (#1) dived to palm it away. Nasyitha (MI #1) denied MJC’s many attempts throughout the second half as she made composed saves one after another. The second half ended 0–0 to go into extra time, two halves of 10 minutes each.

Raelene Leong (MJC #16) went on several good runs in the first half of the overtime, but nothing came out of it. In the second half, goalkeeper Nasyitha (MI #1) dived to save a shot made by MJC, but the ball went loose through her hands. Nurul Huda (MJC #15) was well-positioned and swiftly reacted to fire the ball straight into the net, claiming the first goal of the game (1–0). With four minutes of extra time left, MI failed to equalize, allowing MJC to clinch third.

MJC captain, Atiqah (#4), said, “It was a tough battle but I think my girls really fought it out. I knew they really wanted it and they pushed all the way through. Even though the game went into extra time, they still fought their hearts out. There were many ups and down this season. We really wanted the championship but things didn’t go well for us. It was a tough season but we managed to push through with our teamwork and hard work.”
