Republic Polytechnic, Thursday, May 22, 2014 — Meridian Junior College (MJC) continued their winning streak with a 7–2 victory over Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC) in the National A Division Boys Floorball Championship.
MJC top their group with a perfect 5–0 win-loss record while ACJC finished second with a 4–1 record. Both teams qualified for the semi-finals.
MJC set an early pace with Muhammad Jazli (MJC #21), Muhammad Amsyar (MJC #11) and (MJC #38) scoring a goal each to give MJC a 3–0 lead to head into the second period.
(ACJC #46) picked up a goal in the second period to reduce the deficit to two goals.
The third period began with Cheng Wei Qiang (ACJC #8) committing a foul, resulting in an MJC power-play situation. However, MJC could not capitalize on the man advantage.
MJC managed to score a goal to go 4–1 up before allowing ACJC to score one just minutes after. With seconds to go in the their period, MJC were awarded a penalty for a foul by Gerald Tay (ACJC #9). MJC were able to capitalise on the foul and extended the lead to 6–2.
With two seconds to go, MJC picked up one more goal to win the game 7–2.
MJC vice-captain, Haq Nasrulhaq (#88), said, “It was a good performance by us. We had discipline and took advantage of the opportunities presented to us.”
