Republic Polytechnic, Friday, May 23, 2014 – Raffles Institution (RI) defeated Millennia Institute (MI) 9—1 in the National A Division Girls Floorball Championship.
It was the final game for both teams as neither team managed to qualify for the semi-finals. RI finished fourth in their group with a 2–1–2 win-draw-loss record while MI were fifth with a 1–4 record.
The opening goal was scored by Ang Yu Xin (RI #11) within a minute of the start. Maruyama Mami (MI #7) attempt at an equaliser was saved by goalkeeper Yogeswari (RI #1). Not long after, Tan Jia Hui (RI #12) added two goals to give RI a 3–0 lead at the end of the first period.
Tan Yi Ling (RI #6) then made it 4–0 in the second period before Nur Iylianah (MI #19) saw her attempt saved by Yogeswari (RI #1). While MI put up a better defence during the second period, that could not stop Tan Yi Ling (RI #6) scoring her second for a 5–0 lead heading into the final period.
Ruth Lee (RI #45) made it 6–0 with less than 10 minutes left on the clock but MI didn’t gave up and finally scored their first goal with seven minutes left through Nur Iylianah (#19).
However, RI still managed three goals through Ang Yu Xin (#11), Charis Lim (#16) and Sim Hong (#7) before the game ended.
Tan Jia Hui (#12) said, “The game was pretty exciting, and this was our last game for the season. We did not have high expectations and just wanted to have fun. We as seniors, have faith in the juniors and believe they’ll perform well for the next season. The opponent played well and fought hard. They have good sportsmanship too.”
