Bedok Sports Hall, Thursday, May 29, 2014 — River Valley High School (RVHS) came back from a goal down to beat Hwa Chong Institution 5–3 in the National A Division Girls Floorball Championship. With the win, River Valley clinched third place in the championship. Khwang Jing Chun (RVHS #6) and Eleanor Chua (HCI #18) led all scorers with two goals each.

Hwa Chong struck first in the game, when Sandra Ng (HCI #21) managed to score after a free hit. Her shot beat the keeper down the middle, giving her no chance to save. RVHS managed to keep their composure and equalized shortly after. A goalmouth scramble saw the ball deflect off an unlucky Ko Yu Mei (HCI #11) for an own goal. Jing Chun (RVHS #6) then put RVHS ahead after securing a bad clearance from the HCI keeper, putting her shot away in the bottom corner. Toh Kai Xin (RVHS #8) added another for RVHS, capitalising on a missed save from the HCI keeper to score. Towards the end of the period, HCI pulled one back through Eleanor Chua. She was able to beat the keeper with a nice shot from the left wing. HCI trailed 2–3 at the end of the first period.

The second period saw RVHS control the bulk of possession. Both teams tried to create opportunities to score, but only a couple were converted. RVHS broke the scoring drought midway through the period, when Jamie Goh (RVHS #16) scored off a free hit. Puah Wei Lin (HCI #15) then pulled another back for HCI, when her shot from the left wing trickled past the RVHS keeper.

RVHS asserted themselves in the final period, as they bombarded the HCI goal time and again. The HCI keeper did well to make many saves, but allowed one to get by her. Jing Chun (RVHS #6) was able to dribble down the middle and fire off a shot, which bounced off a HCI player before trickling into the net. The two-goal cushion was enough for RVHS to hold the fort and secure the 5–3 win.

RVHS captain, Toh Kai Xin (#8), said, “I think our girls put up a really good fight. We came back strong after the setback during the MJC game. We were quite shocked to have let in the first goal, but we knew that we had to get it back and step up our defence. I hope my juniors will do better than us next year. All the best to their batch.”
