OCBC Arena, Saturday, June 21, 2014 — Hosts Singapore (SIN) went down 0–23 to Sweden (SWE) in their semi-final game at the 6th World University Floorball Championship.

Early into the game, Sweden were trying for shots one after another as they easily secured the offensive rebounds, but Singapore goalkeeper Fariza Begum (#99) made composed saves to deny them.

The first goal then came less than five minutes into the game. Fjellstedt Cornelia (SWE #17) scored the first one and registered a second goal in the 12th minute (2–0).

Singapore were unable to contain Sweden’s attacks and struggled to stop their passes, allowing them to go for shots one after another. Singapore were putting up a good effort in defence and earned several turnovers from there, but lost the ball quickly once it was in possession as Sweden chased the ball back.

With two minutes remaining in the first period, Joscelin Kee (SIN #13) tried for a shot after receiving a long pass from Ong Hui Hui (SIN #51), but it was too high over the post. Sweden then led 6–0 at the end of the period.

Sweden continued to dominate the game in the second and third period, capitalizing on their good team chemistry to score goals. Sweden’s Larsson Julia (#18) and Helin Sara (#20) topped their team with two goals each in the second period as Sweden led 14–0 going into the final period.

Andersson Erika (SWE #7) opened the scoring for the final period in the third minute, as she intercepted Singapore’s pass and went straight for the goal (15–0).

The ball never really crossed the halfway line during the game, but towards the end, Singapore managed to break through for a couple of tries at the goal. Wynne Tang (SIN #10) attempted one with a few minutes remaining in regulation but it was too light and Sweden goalkeeper Johansson Erika (#30) collected easily. That proved to be the last attempt from Singapore as they went down 0–23 to Sweden to miss out on the final.

Singapore’s player of the match, Fariza Begum (#99), said, “From the start of the game, our mentality was to go in and play our hearts out, enjoy the game. Personally, my aim was to save as many shots as I can.”

Singapore will now face Switzerland in the 3rd-placing match, while Sweden will go on to meet Finland in the final.
