Singapore Basketball Centre, Tuesday, July 1, 2014 — Deyi Secondary (DYS) defeated Naval Base Secondary (NBS) 46–3 in the first round of the North Zone C Division Girls’ Basketball Championship.
Lim Ja Suen (DYS #11) led all scorers with 12 points.
Deyi ended the first quarter with a 24–0 lead, denying Naval Base of any points. It was until the third quarter, when NBS (#13) scored their first point in the game through a free throw. Deyi held a 30–1 lead at the end of the third period.
Deyi’s strong defence and offence gave them an advantage over Naval Base. Despite multiple turnovers, Naval Base did not give up and fought till the end. Deyi won the match 46—3, giving them their first win of the season.
Deyi will next play Edgefield Secondary, while Naval Base will play Anderson Secondary on Thursday, July 3.
Deyi captain, Poon Xuan Ling (#15) commented, “The team worked hard and fought till the end. But we have to improve more on our defence and attack. I’m really proud of them.”
Lim Ja Suen (DYS #11), who led all scorers with 12 points, added, “I felt that the team did well and had good teamwork. I never expected that I’d be the top scorer but I hope I can do better in the next few games.”
