Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), Thursday, July 3, 2014 — Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) [ACS(I)] came out on top with a 19–2 win over Bedok Green Secondary (BGSS) in their opening game of the National C Division Softball Championship.
Russel [ACS(I) #5] started the game with a base hit, scoring on a home steal to put the first run on the board for ACS(I). ACS(I) were able to pick up two more runs in the first inning before allowing BGSS to pick up two consecutive outs to retire the side.
Bedok Green were shut down by ACS(I) pitching in the bottom of the first with pitcher Ethan Wee [ACS(I) #22] picking up a ground out and two strike outs.
The top of the second saw an error from Bedok Green, allowing a lead off triple for Ryan [ACS(I) #21], who scored on a single by Russel [ACS(I) #5]. BGSS picked up the first out of the inning on a play at home as they successfully picked off Russel [ACS(I) #5], who was attempting a second home steal. Bedok Green allowed four more runs before retiring the side.
ACS(I) once again picked up a three up, three down inning in the bottom of the second.
Bedok Green allowed four walks in a row before giving up a couple of hits, allowing ACS(I) to pick up nine runs in the last inning. Ethan Wee [ACS(I) #22] also hit a home run in the frame.
ACS(I) succesfully retired the first two batters in the bottom of the third before giving up a walk to Masa (BGSS #39). With two outs and a runner on first, Shong Lim (BGSS #1) made the only hit for his team with a 2-run home run. ACS(I) went back to work after that and got the last out to win by mercy rule.
ACS(I) captain, Calvin Chirnside said, “We played well. We were able to minimise our errors and our pitcher pitched a magnificent game. Solid performance by the team today.”
