Physical Education and Sports Education Branch, Thursday, July 3, 2014 — Fairfield Methodist School (FMS) beat Queensway Secondary (QSS) 2–0 (25–11, 25–9) in the South Zone C Division Boys Volleyball Championship to qualify for the semi-finals.

This is Fairfield Methodist’s second consecutive win in the tournament, and they will face Zhonghua Secondary in their final group game. On the other hand, Queensway have failed to qualify for the semi-finals with this loss. They will meet Queenstown Secondary in their final game of the season.

In the first set, Fairfield Methodist’s good team coordination on court allowed them to gain an early lead over Queensway. They eventually closed the set 25–11 and were looking for another win in the second set.

Early into the second set, Fairfield Methodist held a 3–0 lead but their attacking mistake allowed Queensway to take their first point (1–3). Fairfield Methodist then went on to take an 8–1 lead, but their mistake gave away another point to Queensway (2–8). Queensway’s (#6) then made a good block at the net to secure the third point for his team (3–8).

For Queensway, (#9) was making valiant efforts to up his defensive game, but it was not enough to cut off his opponents’ scoring as Luc’s (FMS #7) strong spikes earned consistent points for his side. With that, Fairfield Methodist proceeded to take it 25–9, securing their second win in the tournament.

Fairfield Methodist captain, Luc (#7), said, “It was a fun and good experience for us. We still have some room for improvement, as we made a few mistakes today. However I think we played our best, and hopefully with some training we can do better next time.”
