Singapore Basketball Centre, Friday, July 4, 2014 — Bowen Secondary beat Yio Chu Kang Secondary (YCK) 57–12 in the first round of the North Zone C Division Basketball Championship.
Bowen now tops the group with three straight wins while YCK has a win and a loss.
Both teams showed great defence in the first period. About three minutes into the game, YCK put the first points on the board and Bowen responded right after to equalise. Bowen set the pace of the game, scoring three in a row to take the lead. Wei Jie (Bowen #5) sank a three-pointer to give Bowen a 18–8 lead to end the first period.
The second period saw a stalemate with neither teams being able to score, until a pair of free throws by Josiah (Bowen #7) with two minutes left to play.
In the third period, Justin Ng (YCK #10) scored a three-pointer but that was not enough to turn the game around. Bowen took a 34–12 lead going into the final period.
In the final period, Bowen scored 23 points to take the 57–12 victory.
Bowen will next play Woodlands Ring Secondary on July 8, while YCK will play Christ Church Secondary on July 10. Both games will be played at the Singapore Basketball Centre.
Bowen captain, Frank Lim (#12), said, “We were able to play very well but I think we can still play better. We didn’t play to the best of our abilities today. I hope that we will be better in the matches to come.”
