Singapore Basketball Centre, Friday, July 4, 2014 — Christ Church Secondary (CHR) defeated Woodlands Ring Secondary (WRS) 36–20 to clinch their first win in the first round of the North Zone C Division Boys’ Basketball Championship.
Lai Zheng De (CHR #7) had a game-high of 22 points. Both Christ Church and Woodlands Ring have a 1–1 win-loss record.
The first half was rather intense with multiple lead changes. Woodlands Ring took a one-point 9–8 lead at the end of the first quarter. Zheng De (CHR #7) scored all eight Christ Church’s points in the quarter. Both teams tied at 13 apiece at the end of the second quarter.
Woodlands Ring took a 16–15 lead early in the third quarter. Not long later, Zheng De (CHR #7) scored to spark an 8–0 run to put Christ Church up 23–16 to end the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Christ Church came back strong in their attack and capitalised on Woodlands Ring turnovers. Woodlands Ring were unable to break through the Christ Church defence causing them to be lack behind. Nonetheless, they did not give up and fought till the last second. Christ Church clinched their first win of the season with a final score of 36–20.
Christ Church will next play Northbrooks Secondary, while Woodlands Ring will play Bowen Seconday on Tuesday, July 9. Both games will be played at the Singapore Basketball Centre.
