Singapore Basketball Centre, Thursday, July 10, 2014 — Christ Church Secondary defeated Yio Chu Kang Secondary 51—23 in the first round of the North Zone C Division Boys’ Basketball Championship.

Chirst Church Secondary have a 3–1 win-loss record, while Yio Chu Kang Secondary have a 1–3 win-loss record.

Lai Zheng De (CHR #7) led all scorers with 19 points, while teammate Eugene Tan (CHR #11) had 16 points. Justin Ng (YCK #10) led his team with 10 points.

The first quarter saw multiple lead changes. Yio Chu Kang were strong in their defence in the first half. However, Christ Church’s performance improved in the second half. In the second half, Christ Church were quicker in their offence and wore Yio Chu Kang out.

Justin Ng (YCK #10) had an outstanding performance for his team. He manage to breakthrough Christ Church’s full-court press and led his team with 10 points.

Christ Church managed to take the lead through the game. Zheng De (CHR #7) had an outstanding performance in the first round of the season. His impressive speed as well as accurate shots allowed him to get to the basket easily.

Christ Church clinched the 51–23 victory, finishing second in Group A to advance to the second round. Yio Chu Kang have been eliminated.

Top scorer, Zheng De (CHR #7), commented, “We are not playing at our best and not to our standard, but the team gave their best. We’re aiming for a top four placing.”
