Clementi Sports Hall, Monday, July 14, 2014 — Bukit Batok Secondary (BBS) beat Clementi Town Secondary (CTS) 44–23 in the West Zone C Division Boys Basketball Championship.
Both teams have failed to qualify for the second round of the tournament.
Freddi (BBS #14) paced his team with 19 points, while Ulric Tan (CTS #13) had eight points in the game.
Freddi (BBS #14) scored the first two points for his side before Ulric Tan (CTS #13) levelled at 2–2 on the next transition. Freddi (BBS #14) had a good start to the game, scoring 12 points in the first quarter alone. Bukit Batok went on to take a 16–4 lead at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Shan Yi (BBS #10) proved to be a threat in the paint with his height advantage, and he was also diligently going for rebounds. Clementi Town failed to score any in the earlier part of the quarter, but (CTS #8) connected on a pair of free throws midway through to put a stop to his side’s scoring drought. Bukit Batok secured most of the offensive rebounds for second chance points, and led 22–6 going into the halftime break.
Bukit Batok had several underbasket attempts early into the third quarter, but were unable to convert them due to bad finishing. However, then on they got their touch back and scored eight points straight to push their lead to 30–6. Clementi Town’s (#8) then broke through with a point from free throws. He also tried cutting in couple of times but was unable to finish off well at the basket. Bukit Batok then had a 30-point lead by the end of the third quarter (38–8).
(CTS #4) opened the scoring in the final quarter. He was making a difference to the pace of the game midway through the quarter and contributed five points for his side. On the other hand, Edward Lo (BBS #8) went on unattended drives and was making his fast breaks count. He was the only scorer for his side in the final quarter and had six points. Clementi Town stepped up their game in the final quarter and outscored Bukit Batok 15–6, but it was too late for a comeback as Bukit Batok ended the game 44–23 winners.
Bukit Batok captain, Edward (#8), said, “It was a fun and exciting game. We worked better in defence and did it well. This year we have a lot of secondary ones, so I feel that we are losing out on experience. But then I think that next year we will do better with more experience and skills, knowing how each other play on court. So I think that we will stand a chance to qualify next year.”
Clementi Town top scorer, Ulric (#13), said, “I think it was a tough game and we didn’t do well. We did not really put in the effort to try get the ball.”
