PESEB, Wednesday, July 16, 2014 — Ang Mo Kio Secondary (AMK) are through to their first ever zonal final with a 2–0 (25–20, 25–11) win over Bartley Secondary (BSS) in the semi-final of the South Zone C Division Girls Volleyball Championship.

Both teams were evenly matched coming out of the gates. They were able to hold their up to the point when Ang Mo Kio held a 6–5 lead. From there, Ang Mo Kio’s strong service game allowed them to extend their lead to 5 points. However, complacency started to creep into the Ang Mo Kio team, as they fluffed a few of their spikes into the net. This allowed the Bartley team to come back to trail by only one point at 17–18. Ang Mo Kio closed out the set by setting up spikes for Iris Gao (AMK #5), eventually taking the set 25–20.

Bartley were able to return the ball more effectively at the start of the quarter. They were able to set up spikes for BSS #1 to strike back. Ng Ai Lun (AMK #15) made a couple of cerebral plays during the set. She would feint the set before hitting the ball over to the Bartley side, getting a couple of points off a stunned Bartley team. Bartley kept the game close until 11–16, when Ang Mo Kio rattled off nine straight points to seal their win. Ang Mo Kio will face Cedar Girls’ Secondary in the final on Monday, July 21 at Delta Sports Hall at 2pm.

Ang Mo Kio captain, Ng Ai Lun (#15), said, “We are very excited to have made the final, as this is the first time in school history. We were able to win thanks to our coach and the skills he imparted to us. I hope that we will be able to beat Cedar Girls’ to clinch the zonal title.”
