PESEB, Wednesday, July 16, 2014 — Cedar Girls’ Secondary (CGS) took out Fairfield Methodist School (Secondary) (FMSS) 2–0 (25–3, 25–14) in the semi-final of the South Zone C Division Volleyball Championship.

Cedar raced out to a 13-point lead in the first set. Strong service play by the Cedar players gave Fairfield Methodist a lot of trouble. There were a few occasions where the Fairfield Methodist players would miss the dig due to miscommunication. Boh Zexuan (#13) and Saw Linmin (#16) maintained their team’s lead with precise spikes that were put out of Fairfield Methodist’s reach. Eventually Cedar took the first set 25–3.

The second set saw more stable play from Fairfield Methodist School. They started out with a 3–point lead, before Cedar Girls’ came back to lead 10–5. Boh Zexuan (CGS #13) was again key for her team, as she blocked a few spikes from Fairfield Methodist.

Fairfield Methodist’s offence struggled at this point, as they were unable to set up their spikes. This allowed Cedar Girls’ to take advantage of weak returns and extend their lead. They took the second set 25–14, setting up a clash with Ang Mo Kio Secondary in the zonal final. The match will be played on Monday, July 21 at 2pm at Delta Sports Hall.

Cedar captain, Saw Linmin (#16), said, “It feels great that we won today. Our team’s goal is to be zonal champions and hopefully reach top four in nationals. We played really well in the first set and it was a good experience for us overall. We hope that we will meet Fairfield Methodist again in the nationals. The key to our success was that our players really had a lot of confidence, this led us to the win.”
