Bukit Merah Secondary School, Thursday, May 17, 2014 — Bukit Merah Secondary (BMS) dominated Bedok South Secondary (BSS) 6–0 to win their first game of the National C Division Floorball Championship.
Agnes Loh (BMS #12) had a game-high of three goals, while Cheryl Tan (BMS #28), Nur Insyirah Bte Amran (BMS #14) and Tan Wan Ni (BMS #10) had one goal each.
This is Bedok South’s second match of the season. They previously played against Coral Secondary and drew 8–8.
Early into the game, Bukit Merah were trying for multiple offensive shots as they dominated possession of the ball, but Bedok South defence cleared the ball as play drew closer to the net. Timely blocks by Eleanor Ee (BSS #20) prevented Nureen Farsihah Bte Zubairi (BMS #20) and Michelle Tan (BMS #22) from scoring the open goal.
The first goal of the game came in the eighth minute, when Cheryl (BMS #28) drilled the ball past the goalkeeper’s left shoulder and into the net. With a minute left in the period, Bedok South broke through Bukit Merah’s defence but were blocked just before the net.
Bedok South found a bit more success venturing into the Bukit Merah half in the second period, but most attempts to score were quickly intercepted and passed on. An opportunity created by Geraldine Lee (BSS #23) almost saw Bedok South equalizing, but Nur Deanna Bte Norazme (BMS #23) quickly stepped up to block the ball.
Halfway through, Agnes (BMS #12) slotted the ball in from the corner, and (BMS #14) pulled one for the team two minutes later. Eleanor (BSS #20) then made several attempts to score, but the ball was cleared before she could draw closer to the net.
The third period saw Bedok North pushing hard to score, with attempts to shoot from half-court initially taking Bukit Merah by surprise. However, attempts either went wide or were blocked.
In the last three minutes, Anges (BMS #12) found an opening for an easy tap-in, bringing the score to 5–0. Bedok South rallied, and Nadiah Bte Muhammad Kamil (BSS #11), Michelle Tan (BSS #22) and Geraldine (BSS #23) came close to scoring but found their attempts blocked by the goalkeeper.
With 30 seconds left in regulation time, an accurate quick-wrist shot by Tan Wan Ni (BMS #10) put the ball past the keeper and into the net to wrap up the 6–0 win.
