Singapore Basketball Centre, Friday, July 18, 2014 — Bowen Secondary (BWS) defeated Seng Kang Secondary (SKS) 58–44 in the second round of North Zone C Division Boys’ Basketball Championship.
Bowen have a 3–0 win-loss record in the second round, while Seng Kang have a 2–1 win-loss record.
Wilbur Tan (BWS #14) led all scorers with 22 points, while his teammate Nicholas (BWS #4) had 14 points. Keane Liew (SKS #12) led his team with 20 points, while teammate Hakeem (SKS #9) had 13 points.
The game came off a pretty fast pace in the first quarter. Both teams were competing aggressively. Bowen led 11–2 just five minutes into the quarter. With three minutes left, the Seng Kang coach called a time out. Seng Kang switched to a full court defensive press after. They managed to catch up, reducing the deficit to just five points (8–13) to end the quarter.
In the second quarter, both teams played man-to-man defence. Bowen soon switched to a double-team defence to put a stop to Seng Kang’s offence. However, Seng Kang managed to take the 24–21 lead with Hakeem (SKSS #9) scoring two baskets at the end of the quarter.
Wilbur Tan (BWS #14), facilitated by his teammates, scored multiple accurate under-baskets. Keane Liew (SKS #12) performed well for his team once again, stepping up to narrow the score difference.
In the third quarter, both teams fought for the lead. Both teams played good defence and fast-paced offence. Bowen led throughout the second half to record the 58–44 victory.
Top scorer, Wilbur Tan (BWS #14) commented, “I felt that we tried our best, even though we missed a couple of shots. I felt that we did our best in defence. My performance today was due to my teammates, who were able to assist me with good passes. I felt that half of the credit goes to them.”
