Singapore Basketball Centre, Friday, July 18, 2014 — North Vista Secondary (NVS) defeated Maris Stella High (MSH) 58–35 in the second round of North Zone C Division Boys’ Basketball Championship.
Both North Vista and Maris Stella share a 2–1 win-loss record in the second round
Lim Joe Yang (NVS #11) led all scorers with 19 points with four three-pointers, while teammate Reuben (NVS #12) had 14 points.
North Vista played a good double-team defence to take a 17–5 lead at the end of the first quarter.
North Vista were quick in their offence and strong in their defence, allowing them to lead throughout the game. All the players were able to break through the Maris Stella defence.
Maris Stella missed multiple open shots, but Zhan Xian (MSH #15) still managed to lead the team with 17 points with his under-basket and accurate shots. Despite lacking behind, they fought hard in the second quarter to try to narrow the score difference.
North Vista were able to do well with good teamwork and accurate passing, denying any Maris Stella interception.
North Vista recorded their second win of round two with the 58–35 victory.
North Vista will next play Woodgrove Secondary, while Maris Stella will play Pei Hwa Presbyterian on Monday, July 21. Both games will be played at the Singapore Basketball Centre.
Top scorer, Lim Joe Yang (NVS #11), commented, “I felt that the team has performed extremely well in defence which allowed us to win this game. I also think that my performane today was really good, and all thanks to my teammates that I’m able to do this well. Lastly, we need to improve more on our shot accuracy and make more shots for the next game.”
North Vista vice-captain, Cletus Ng (#6) commented, “I think that my team did great on defence and we managed to score quite a few three-pointers. But I still feel that there is still room for improvement. We’ve done better as compared to the first game. Our captain, who is injured, have been constantly supporting us and I hope that he’ll be able to join us if we fight our way through to top four. We need to improve on defence and offence. I’m proud of my team.”
