PESEB, Wednesday, July 23, 2014 — Guangyang Secondary (GYS) defeated Peirce Secondary (PS) 40–28 in the South Zone C Division Boys Basketball Championship.

Guangyang Secondary topped their second round group with five wins to proceed to the semi-final, while Peirce have ended their season.

Ryan Tan (#10) of Peirce was the top scorer with 14 points, while Darren Tan (#9) of Guangyang led his team with nine points.

Guangyang and Peirce were evenly matched in the first quarter, but Wong Yi Jian (GYS #6) blitzed past Peirce defence to successfully attempt an open layup. Ryan (PS #10) scored his team’s first three points, and they were tied 5–5 halfway through. Thereafter, Guangyang managed to score five unanswered points before Ryan (PS #10) broke through the Guangyang defence to shoot. The first quarter ended with Guangyang leading 10–7.

Guangyang picked up the pace in the second quarter, with Gerald Lim (GY #12) scoring at the 15-second mark. Cassidy Tan (GY #13) quickly scored three points for his team just a few seconds later. However, Guangyang successfully defended and pushed back to score eight unanswered points. While Peirce had greater possession, they struggled to find the basket again.

Halfway through, Yi Jian (PS #6) sneaked in a layup and Ryan (PS #10) persisted in attempting to steal balls and catch the rebounds. Peirce had success came again when Biao Yang (PS #7) dodged the Guangyang defence to score two points. The second quarter ended with Guangyang leading 22–14.

The third quarter saw Guangyang aggressively attacking, and Brunio Bacomo (GY #5) scored half a minute into the game. While Guangyang controlled the game, Peirce were able to block them at times. However, the Peirce defence faced difficulty holding back Guangyang. This quarter saw Ryan (PS #10) scoring six points for his team. The quarter saw Guangyang outscoring Peirce 10–8.

Guangyang rallied in the fourth quarter with players intercepting more passes and actively reaching for the rebound. However, they had a low conversion as the ball repeatedly rebounded out. After Peirce’s Ryan (#10) and Jericho Danyal de Silva Golez (#5) scored, Guangyang’s Lin Wei (#14) attempt found the net to win the game 40–28.
