PESEB, Friday, August 1, 2014 — Damai Secondary (DSS) comfortably beat Bukit Batok Secondary (BBS) 69–0 in the group stages of the National C Division Rugby (Bowl) Championship. Four Damai players led their team with two tries each.

Damai drew first blood shortly after the kickoff. Nur Hidayat (DSS #24) was able to find some space on the left flank, before handing the ball off to Mohamad Irfan (DSS #2) for the easy try.

The ensuing kickoff saw a lot of scrums go in favour of Bukit Batok, but there were unable to advance the ball into Damai territory. Mohamad Jamian (DSS #20) continued Damai’s dominance by scoring after a scrum, as he broke through the porous Bukit Batok defence to score.

Bukit Batok struggled to pass the ball, as their players fumbled the ball all over the place. Damai added to their score with two tries from Nur Hidayat (DSS #24) and one from Boo Han Wei (DSS #8), which took their score to 33–0 at half time.

Damai’s strong performance continued into the second half, as Bukit Batok were wasteful with their possession. Mohamad Jamian (DSS #20) scored again to complete his brace, followed by two consecutive tries by Muhammad Haikel (DSS #9).

Damai’s players were physically stronger and it was evident when they broke through Bukit Batok’s defence easily. Koh Kok Leng (DSS #15) scored a nice try when he faked out a couple of defenders, before scoring his only try of the game. In the end, Damai took the 69–0 win.

Damai captain, Han Wei (#8), said, “It was an okay match, we could have been better. We managed to get a few good runs in and we communicated well. We have to use more of what we learnt in training and we hope to get first in the bowl.”
