Republic Polytechnic, Thursday, January 22, 2015 — Defending champions CHIJ St. Joseph’s Convent (SJC) defeated Northland Secondary (NSS) 43–7 in the North Zone C Division Netball Championship.
SJC forced NSS turnovers and executed their play well with their swift and accurate passes, giving them a strong 18–0 lead after the opening quarter.
NSS found it difficult to maintain possession in the second quarter and SJC capitalized on that. The shooters of SJC displayed great chemistry in their second passes and quick rotation as they successfully potted their shots without much difficulty. SJC extended their domination and outscored NSS 11–2 to gain a 27-point lead at half time.
The third quarter saw tighter defence by the NSS goal defenders, creating more opportunities for turnovers to be converted into shots. This contributed to three NSS goals, one more than the previous quarter.
Keen to narrow the gap, NSS continued to give their opponents a strong fight till the final whistle. Despite their valiant efforts, they could not overhaul the point deficit, leaving SJC to seal the game with a score of 43–7.
“I think we improved from our previous match which was against Hougang Secondary,” said Yan Ni, the NSS Goal Attack. She contributed six of the seven goals for her team.
“We displayed a stronger fighting spirit today as compared to the other games. I’m very proud of them,” said Yuyu, the NSS Goal Defender.
