Jurong West Sports Hall, Friday, January 23, 2015 — Yuan Ching Secondary (YCS) dominated from the start to defeat Greenridge Secondary (GSS) 41–21 in the first round of the West Zone B Division Basketball Championship.

Yu Mingzhi (YCS #6) led Yuan Ching with a game-high 12 points, while Raphael Puah (GSS #5) and Lim Hao Liang (GSS #9) each put in five points for Greenridge.

Yuan Ching put up a dominating first quarter, playing well both offensively and defensively. Greenridge stepped up on their game in the second quarter, connecting better on their offensive plays. However Yuan Ching did well on their defence and thus, Greenridge were unable to reduce the deficit. They trailed 9–25 going into the halftime break.

In the third quarter, Greenridge were still unable to find a way to break through Yuan Ching’s defence and had to settle for flustered shots which did not fall. However, it was too late for a comeback as Greenridge went down 21–41 to Yuan Ching.

With this win, Yuan Ching hold a 2–1 win-loss record while Greenridge recorded their third loss.

Yuan Ching’s captain, Kenny (#13), said, “We did fairly well compared to our previous two games but our defence transition and passing can be improved on.”

Greenridge’s captain, Lim Jing En (#15), said, “We did not perform really well. We could have improved on our defence and rebound attempts.”

Yuan Ching will next play River Valley High, while Greenridge will face New Town. Both games will be played at 1.45 pm, on Thursday, January 29 and will be played at Jurong West Sports Hall.
