Republic Polytechnic Sports Complex, Thursday, February 5, 2015 — Bowen Secondary (BWS) defeated Fuchun Secondary (FCS) 43–5 in the preliminary round of the North Zone C Division Netball Championship.
The win gives Bowen a 4–1 win-loss record, as they were previously defeated 10–51 by Anderson. Bowen will need to defeat Christ Church Secondary in order to proceed to the second round as runners up.
Bowen had good team chemistry coupled with near flawless shots to outscore Fuchun 9–0 in the first quarter.
Fuchun managed to score their first goal in the second quarter through their GS, who managed to convert several offensive rebounds into points. She contributed to three out of the four goals scored in this half.
Despite a comfortable lead, Bowen did not let their guard down. Instead, they worked even harder to increase their lead to 16 points at half time with focused, swift play. Fuchun was more coordinated towards the end of the first half to play a much better game, scoring four more points to trail 4–20.
The third quarter saw Bowen dominate with a succession of turnovers. Bowen’s Goal Shooter and Goal Attack worked well on offence, as their quick rotation and high shooting accuracy helped to extend the lead. Angela Toco, Bowen’s GA, contributed to seven out of the 11 goals scored.
Bowen held an advantageous 31–4 lead at the end of the third quarter.
In the last quarter, Fuchun continued to give their opponents a strong fight till the final whistle. Despite their valiant efforts, they could not overhaul the deficit. A 12–1 final quarter wrapped up the 43–5 win for Bowen.
Bowen’s captain, Angela Toco, said, “We did better than our previous games. Our attack brought down the ball smoothly and our defenders were very consistent.”
“Fuchun put up a good fight. They challenged us till the end and didn’t give up,” she added.
