Dunman Secondary School, Tuesday, February 10, 2015 — Cedar Girls’ Secondary (CG) saw their season end despite a 37–19 win over Damai Secondary (DSS) in the East Zone B Division Netball Championship.

The win gives Cedar a 5–1 win-loss record. CGS defeated St. Hilda’s, Pasir Ris Crest, Siglap and Changkat Changi 25–22, 38–8, 40–8 and 55–8 respectively. They lost 12–36 by Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ School (PLMGS). Cedar will miss out on Round 2 despite the win due to an inferior points difference in the head-to-head matchup between St. Hilda’s and PLMGS after all three teams finished with identical win-loss records.

Cedar found their momentum early into the game as they utilised precise passes to advance the ball towards the goal circle. The CG shooters were undaunted by Damai’s defence and their accurate shooting gave them a 15–4 first quarter lead.

Damai stepped up their defence in the second quarter, in an attempt to deny their opponents’ passes to their shooters. Their diligent defence allowed them to limit CG scoring opportunities, and they were outscored just 7–8. Damai trailed 11–23 going into the halftime break.

Damai’s Goal Attack, Celeste, stepped up offensively towards the end of the third quarter to score crucial points for her team. She played a pivotal role for Damai with good runs in the shooting circle, getting past her defenders on several occasions to receive the ball, and then converting efficiently. She contributed to all three goals scored in this quarter.

Going into the third and final break, Cedar extended their lead to 28–14.

In the last quarter, Cedar were eager to keep their lead and thus focused more on their defence, forcing Damai to make hesitating passes which were easily intercepted. Cedar’s GA refused to give up and battled against Damai’s defence in the shooting circle, scoring three unanswered goals towards the end of the quarter, allowing her team to seal the eventual 37–19 victory.
