Republic Polytechnic Sports Complex, Wednesday, February 25, 2015 — Anderson Secondary (AND) had the upper hand and eventually beat Christ Church Secondary (CHR) 44–13 in the second round of the North Zone B Division Netball Championship.

This marks Anderson’s seventh consecutive win in the championship after dominating their previous games against Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary (51–4), Yio Chu Kang Secondary (41–16), Marsiling Secondary (47–6), Hougang Secondary (59–8), Woodlands Ring Secondary (63–3) and Sengkang Secondary (48–9).

On the other hand, Christ Church now have a 4–1 win-loss record. They won their previous games against Compassvale Secondary (47–17), Yishun Secondary (75–3), Sembawang Secondary (72–5) and Fuchun Secondary (48–14).

The game got off to a fast start as both teams fought aggressively for the ball. Anderson took a 9–7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Going into the second quarter, Anderson displayed exemplary teamwork, creating good on-court support. Their passes were mostly long high-ball passes which were accurate and swift, restricting the ability of Christ Church to intercept and score.

On the other hand, as most of Christ Church’s passes were low, Anderson were able to defend with ease. Through several Christ Church turnovers, Anderson were able to convert on offence to take a 21–11 lead at the end of the second quarter.

Anderson continued to look at ease in the third quarter. Commendable efforts by the Goal Attack, Goal Shooter and Wing Attack to get the ball to the net, including a triangle-play, allowed Anderson to execute a 9–0 scoring run.

Christ Church struggled to keep up and eventually scored one goal after several defensive rebounds made by their Goal Attack, but the Anderson lead at the end of the third quarter was now 34–12.

In the final quarter, Anderson continued to dominate possession. However, they found difficulty in converting at the net as they began to lack accuracy in their shots. Despite this, Anderson’s excellent team play gave them the 44–13 victory by the final whistle.

Anderson’s captain, Sing Fang, said, “We were scared at first, but later performed well and tried our best. There were some mistakes made but we still managed to get the ball back. The team worked well today. We are a very bonded team and are able to understand each other on-court without much shouting.”

“We think that Christ Church played well today,” she added.

Anderson will next play against Singapore Chinese Girls’ School on Monday, March 2, 2015 at 4.00 p.m. while Christ Church face North Vista Secondary on the same day, at 3.00 p.m. Both games will be held at Republic Polytechnic Sports Complex.
