Republic Polytechnic Sports Complex, Friday, February 27, 2015 — CHIJ St. Joseph’s Convent (SJC) defeated Seng Kang Secondary (SKSS) 41–11 in their second game of round two of the North Zone B Division Netball Championship.

SJC had previously won their preliminary games against Sembawang Secondary (79–5), Christ Church Secondary (55–19), Compassvale Secondary (54–8), Fuchun Secondary (59–2), Yishun Secondary (84–0).

On the other hand, going into round two, SKSS held a 5–2 win-loss record, winning their previous games against Hougang Secondary (31–20), Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary (27–7), Marsiling Secondary (31–10), Yio Chu Kang Secondary (26–23) and Woodlands Ring Secondary (32–7).

In the first quarter, SJC showed great teamwork and went on a 9–1 scoring run. They restricted SKSS by locking them down with tight defence and fast offence. It was no surprise that SJC led 12–2 at the end of the first quarter.

SJC continued their scoring streak in the second quarter with seven unanswered goals. SJC’s Goal Attack played a pivotal role with her accuracy and decisiveness, creating good on-court support for her Wing Attack and Goal Shooter.

On the other hand, SKSS had little control of the ball and experienced difficulty converting their shots at the net. Their passes were either intercepted or rebounded by their opponents. Nevertheless, the team maintained their composure and managed to score two goals by the end of the quarter, giving a 24–4 lead to SJC.

The third quarter was no different from the second as SJC executed yet another 8–0 scoring run. Their Centre pulled the whole team together and allowed them to drive the ball to the net. Thus, this quarter saw SJC extend their lead to a commanding 34–6.

As SJC became noticeably tired in the last quarter, SKSS gained some opportunities to score. SKSS’ Centre displayed good defence and swiftly passed the ball to her teammates, converting some of their offensive rebounds into goals. However, SJC still had the upper hand and took home the 41–11 victory at the final whistle.

SJC’s captain, Shelay, said, “While we think that Seng Kang put up a good fight, we won the game today due to our determination and defensive effort.”

SKSS next face Bowen Secondary at 3.00 p.m., while SJC will take on Singapore Sports School at 4.00 p.m. Both games will take place at Republic Polytechnic Sports Complex on Monday, March 2.
