River Valley High School, Friday, March 6, 2015 — Methodist Girls’ (MGS) edged out fellow semi-finalists Bukit Panjang Government High 31–28 to book a spot in the final of the West Zone B Division Netball Championship.
Both teams were neck-and-neck in the opening half, answering each other point for point. Wing defence Brenda helmed Bukit Panjang’s defence with several interceptions midcourt to help her team hold their ground, as Bukit Panjang trailed by a single point at the end of the half.
The second and third quarters were decisive as MGS managed to outscore Bukit Panjang by a total three points in the frame.
Despite Bukit Panjang’s sterling defensive efforts to keep the game close, MGS found an answer via lob passes to goal shooter Amandeep, who helped them pull through for the eventual three-point victory.
MGS captain Isabelle Wang said, “Bukit Panjang played very well and they could read our plays. We made some mistakes on our part, but I think it was good that we got it back.”
“We’ve really learnt a lot after today’s game. Although we made mistakes, we really fought very hard and we’re ready to give a good fight in the final,” added Wang.
In the other semi-final, defending champions River Valley High defeated Nanyang Girls’ High 23–21.
