Bedok Sports Hall, Wednesday, March 11, 2015 — Tanjong Katong Girls’ School (TKGS) led through all four quarters to beat St. Hilda’s Secondary 26–20 and secure a well-deserved East Zone B Division Netball Championship title.
TKGS were rewarded with the opening goal for their patient play. They smartly diverted St. Hilda’s defenders away from their shooters which thus allowed their attackers to score very freely. This proved to be extremely effective as TKGS were able to score five goals before St. Hilda’s caught on.
Both teams displayed great chemistry as they distributed the ball speedily, launching far passes with ease.
However, poor finishing from St. Hilda’s hindered their efforts and gave TKGS’s Goal Keeper, Nur Hidayah, multiple chances to pick off rebounds without much contest.
Although St. Hilda’s persistence allowed them to narrow the score margin to 11–8 in the second quarter, TKGS still had an edge. They were always one step ahead as they could navigate easily through St. Hilda’s defenders by deftly moving into spaces. This fluidity in play allowed them to dominate 21–13 in the third quarter.
St. Hilda’s regained their momentum in the fourth quarter and caught up quickly to trail by five points. However, TKGS still managed to hold on to their comfortable lead and eventually won the game 26–20.
TKGS captain, Vanessa Yeo, commented that they were down in the second quarter but put up a better performance in the third quarter for the win. She commended Goal Keeper, Nur Hidayah, for her standout performance.
