Jurong East Sports Hall, Tuesday, March 11, 2015 — Nanyang Girls’ High (NYGH) led from start to finish to seal a 53–35 victory over Jurong Secondary in the West Zone B Division Girls’ Basketball Championship.
Tan Qi Qing (#12) of Nanyang Girls’ led her team with a game-high 14 points while Charmian Cheah (#13) and Tan Li Wen (#14) contributed eight points each. Nur Khardiyanty (#9) of Jurong paced her team with a game-high 14 points.
Nanyang Girls’ started off with a 6–0 run which allowed them to settle down on defence. Jurong struggled to break through but managed to score through the help of Khardiyanty (#9), who was the sole scorer for the quarter.
Jurong began to play better offensively with more accurate plays in the second quarter. However, Nanyang Girls’ matched up with diligent defence thus allowing them to hold on to their 26–17 lead going into the halftime break.
In the third quarter, Jurong struggled to convert as they faced bad finishing during offensive plays. However they never gave up and managed to come back stronger in the last quarter, where they managed to outscore Nanyang Girls’ High 12–10.
Unfortunately, the late-game effort was too late as the deficit was too large to overcome. Nanyang Girls’ High managed to clinch their victory, closing the game with 53–35.
Nanyang Girls’ captain, Natasha Ng (#9), said, “Defence was what won us the game because we were all disclipined, except for some mistakes made. We played better in the first two quarters.”
“It was quite a competitive game but everyone put in their effort. We are happy that our team never gave up. It is a blessing that we could play in the final as a team and we fought very hard,” said Jurong’s captain, Syahidah (#7).
