Bukit Gombak Stadium, Tuesday, April 14, 2015 — Clocking a timing of 15.12 seconds, Singapore Sports School’s Azizul Rijal (#98) ran his way to his first C Division 100m hurdles title at the 56th National Inter-School Track and Field Championships.
“I have been training hard, working hard since last year, and eventually won my first gold medal. It’s very exhilarating,” said the 14-year-old, whose finish is a marked improvement from last year’s event, where he failed to qualify for the final.
“My friends and my coaches have been helping me and carrying me forward. They gave me the motivation to keep running,” he added.
Finishing just four hundredths of a second later was Raffles Institution’s Matz Chan (#204), while Hwa Chong Institution’s Gerard Emmanuel Loh (#401) won the bronze medal with a timing of 15.64 seconds.
15-year-old Joshua Chua, who is Chan’s (#204) senior, holds the meet record of 13.26 seconds, which was set in last year’s final. The timing is also the national under-15 record.
