Physical Education and Sports Education Branch, Monday, April 13, 2015 — Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) claimed a 56–22 victory over Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) in the semi-final of the National B Division Rugby Championship.

Joshua Lee (#7) scored the opening two tries for ACS(I) while Lim Shern (#9) successfully made both conversions. Lim Shern (#9) used his brute strength to charge through middle players to score the third try for ACS(I) through the middle. Nicholas Ethan Wong (#10) scored the conversion to give ACS(I) a 21-0 lead early into the game.

ACS (I) utilised their players effectively and attacked in groups of three or four through the centre, with Matthew Robinson (#21) receiving the ball behind the scrum and spreading it out to the flanks.

However, ACS(BR) eventually broke through the tough defence to score their first try. Three ACS(BR) runners were brought down before the try was put through.

ACS(I) continued to put up a tough fight, scoring another two tries before ACS(BR) answered. There were multiple close calls for ACS(I) as ACS(BR) attacked in numbers. ACS(BR) eventually broke through the flanks for their second try, narrowing the score to 33–12.

Minutes before the end of the first half, Muhammad Haziq Danial B Hydin (#17) from ACS(BR) broke through by charging through four ACS(I) players to make it 33–17.

ACS(I) had a relatively lacklustre performance in the second half, while ACS(BR) showcased smoother play. ACS(BR) fought hard for every ball, giving ACS(I) very little space.

However, midway through the second half, it was clear that the score margin was too wide for ACS(BR) to catch up as ACS(I) pulled away to win 56–22.

“I feel that we did improve a lot from the two weeks break we had between the group stages and the semi-final. But, we still have a lot to work for the final against St. Andrew’s,” said ACS(I) captain, Joshua Lee (#7).

This is ACS(I)’s second win over ACS(BR). They had earlier defeated ACS(BR) 49–0 in the group stage match. ACS(I)’s only loss so far has been against St. Andrew’s Secondary, whom they will face in the final. This final will be played at Home Team Academy on April 23, 4.15 p.m.

ACS(BR) will face St. Joseph’s Institution in the bronze medal playoff match at PESEB on April 20, 4.30 p.m.
