Bukit Gombak Stadium, Thursday, April 16, 2015 — The champion of the C Division girls’ 1500m event for the last two years (2014 and 2013), Arissa Rashid of Nanyang Girls’ High (NYGH), proved her worth yet again, when she bagged the gold medal in the B Division girls’ 1500m final of the 56th National Inter-School Track and Field Championships.
Arissa’s timing of 5 minutes and 16.47 seconds smashed her two-year-old personal best (PB) of 5:22.08 by 5.61 seconds. “I am happy and satisfied,” she said.
The 15-year-old schoolgirl has been taking part in track and field events since primary school, and started specialising in middle distance about five years ago. Looking back, she was glad to see how far she had come.
“I would like to thank my family, coach, and friends for supporting and believing in me,” she concluded.
Last year’s third-placer in the C Division girls’ 1500m event, Joyceleen Yap from Cedar Girls’ Secondary, took silver in 5:17.81 while NYGH’s Noelle Chung clocked 5:20.59 to finish third.
Singapore Sports School alumna Yvonne Lin currently holds the B Division girls’ 1500m record. It was set in 2006 at 4:56.61.
