Bukit Gombak Stadium, Thursday, April 16, 2015 — Joshua Lim of Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) topped the field with a 50.97 second finish in the B Division boys’ 400m event at the 56th National Inter-School Track and Field Championships.
He was the only one in the final who achieved a sub-51s run.
Joshua was the champion in last year’s C Division boys’ 400m when he ran a 51.65s, simultaneously outstripping ACS(I) alumnus Ng Chin Hui’s record of 51.97s.
The 15-year-old felt grateful for his admirable performance.
“I did my best, and I let God do the rest,” he said. “I would like to thank my coach, parents and friends who supported me, and most especially God who gave me the strength to overcome all.”
“I came here with something to prove – that ACS(I) is the school for champions,” he added, and concluded by quoting his school’s motto. “To God be the glory, the best is yet to be.”
Finishing in second place was Muhammad Faris from Junyuan Secondary in 51.02s, a big jump from the 54.87s he attained last year. Settling for bronze was Hwa Chong Institution’s Irving Alexander who ran 51.42s. He was last year’s bronze medalist in the C Division boys’ 400m event.
The B Division boys’ 400m record stands at 49.75s and has been held by Jamie Ross Coates since 2008. He was then from the Singapore Sports School.
