Jurong Sports Hall, Friday, April 17, 2015 — Clarice Tan (AHS #5) made a last-second free throw to give Anglican High a 49–48 win over Nanyang Girls’ High (NYG) in the final of the National B Division Girls’ Basketball Championship. This is Anglican High’s first B Division girls’ title since 2005.

Anglican High trailed for the first three quarters.

Charmian Cheah (NYGH #13) had a team-high 13 points. Teammate Han Xing Yue (NYG #11) contributed nine points.

Koh Hwee Ching (AHS #14) won the tipoff but Nanyang stole the ball with Charmian (NYG #13) driving to the basket, drawing three opponents to her before dishing out the ball to Qi Qing (NYG #12) for the easy basket.

Navanee did a step back jumper to score the first points for her team with Clarice (AHS #5) adding a three-pointer. The quarter ended with Nanyang leading 13–12.

Nanyang started to up their game, displaying good teamwork through successful passes and assists. Adeline (NYG #7) made a fast break layup, finishing with her left hand while Xing Yue (NYG #11) was assisted by Adeline (NYG #7) in a fast break attempt as Anglican High struggled to match their pace.

Charmian made a no look pass to teammate Li Wen (NYG #14) for a right hand hook shot to extend their lead and the second quarter ended with Nanyang leading 25–21.

Anglican High came back with a tighter defence, allowing Nanyang fewer offensive attempts. Navanee (AHS #4) drew a foul in after driving to the basket, going past two opponents and finishing with a right hand layup.

Carissa (AHS #7) then made a reverse right hand hook to add two more points as Anglican High eventually caught up to trail just by one at 32–33.

Charmian (NYG #13) started the fourth quarter doing a left hand layup. Despite the pressure from a close game, Anglican High still maintain their composure. Navanee (AHS #4) hit a three-pointer shot to increase the tension.

NYG stepped up their game and reduced their turnovers. Charmian (NYG #13) hit a three-pointer shot but with the game tied, Clarice (AHS #5) got a foul after trying to drive in to the basket. She stepped up to sink the free throw to help her team win the championship title.

Anglican High’s captain, Navanee (#4), said, “The game was really tough to play as Nanyang had been a really strong team for the past few matches. Despite that, our team managed to remain calm and play just like our normal routine. We could’ve reduced the amount of turnovers and we really have to improve in our accuracy of our shots.

“I really want to thank everyone for our victory, be it the supporters, our coach or the teacher as they really put in effort to support us through this tournament. This being my last season, I would say that this is shiok ah.”
